Nvidia’s AI Server Costs Increase Over 15% Due to Rising Memory Prices

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Nvidia plans to implement price hikes exceeding 15% for numerous AI server configurations scheduled for delivery in early 2027. These adjustments affect models utilizing the company’s Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell platforms, with the magnitude of each increase differing depending on the chip generation and memory configuration. Nvidia has not officially announced a blanket price rise across all server products, but server manufacturers have already communicated the updated pricing to key data center clients.

Major data center operators, including Microsoft, Google, and Oracle, have been informed of the new pricing structure by server manufacturers. These companies purchase large quantities of AI infrastructure to support their cloud and data center operations. The surge in memory costs has become a significant factor influencing the reported server price increases. AI deployments demand large amounts of high-bandwidth and server memory, alongside GPUs, CPUs, networking gear, and storage, which has kept certain memory categories in tight supply throughout 2026.

According to TrendForce, traditional DRAM contract prices are expected to increase by 13% to 18% in the third quarter of 2026. NAND Flash contract prices are also projected to go up by 10% to 15% during the same period. The research firm explained that server DRAM remains under-supplied because suppliers prioritize capacity for AI-related applications. While long-term supply agreements have limited some price hikes, overall costs for server memory continue to stay high.

Memory cost hikes driven by persistent AI server demand

Nvidia announced in May that Vera Rubin had entered full production with server manufacturers and supply-chain partners worldwide. The company stated that Rubin-based products would become accessible during the latter half of 2026. Vera Rubin integrates the Vera CPU, Rubin GPU, NVLink 6, ConnectX-9, BlueField-4, and Spectrum-6 networking technologies. It replaces Grace Blackwell as Nvidia’s latest rack-scale architecture tailored for large AI workloads. System manufacturers are developing Rubin-based solutions for cloud providers, AI laboratories, and hyperscale data centers.

Meanwhile, Grace Blackwell continues to be a key component of Nvidia’s current data center product lineup. The GB200 NVL72 configuration links 36 Grace CPUs with 72 Blackwell GPUs in a single liquid-cooled rack. This system is designed to operate as a unified NVLink computing domain for extensive AI models. The reported increases in server prices differ depending on the configuration, with memory capacity and chip generation playing crucial roles. Therefore, the 15% increase figure does not apply uniformly to every Nvidia server model.

Expansion of Vera Rubin production across Nvidia’s server portfolio

Memory manufacturers have shifted production focus toward server and high-performance products as AI demand continues to absorb capacity. TrendForce indicated this shift has led to a reduction in supply available for certain PC and consumer DRAM products. Despite strong server shipment volumes throughout 2026 and ongoing inventory accumulation by buyers, server DRAM supply is expected to remain tight into 2027, as demand growth surpasses supply expansion. These market dynamics underpin the pricing adjustments reported by Nvidia.

Nvidia is entering this pricing phase with record-breaking data center sales. For its fiscal first quarter ending on April 26, the company reported total revenue of $81.6 billion, with data center revenue reaching an all-time high of $75.2 billion, representing a 92% increase from the previous year. Nvidia forecasted second-quarter revenue of around $91 billion, plus or minus 2%, when announcing these results in May. The company will release its fiscal second-quarter earnings on August 26.
