Nvidia’s Earnings Propel Wall Street’s Tech Sector Rally

    August 27, 2026

NEW YORK / RankWire.AI / – Following Nvidia’s release of quarterly results on Wednesday, Wall Street’s technology sector experienced a notable upward movement this week. This positive momentum was preceded by gains in major U.S. indexes on Tuesday, as technology and semiconductor shares recovered after the previous session’s decline. The S&P 500 increased by 0.31% to 7,676.62, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.64% to 26,145.47. The Dow Jones Industrial Average grew 0.29% to 53,572.91. These advancements renewed enthusiasm for tech stocks ahead of one of the market’s most anticipated earnings reports.

Wall Street tech rebound followed by Nvidia earnings
Wall Street technology shares remain in focus after Nvidia’s latest quarterly earnings.

On Tuesday, Nvidia’s shares rose by 2.2%, with AMD jumping 4.9%, and Meta Platforms advancing nearly 2%. The broad gains across chipmakers were reflected in the Philadelphia semiconductor index, which added 1.4%. During the session, Treasury yields declined, and oil prices edged lower. These shifts coincided with renewed investor interest in large technology stocks after Monday’s pullback. The rebound contributed to all three major U.S. indexes closing higher as investors waited for corporate earnings reports and new economic data.

Wall Street mostly remained flat on Wednesday before Nvidia published its earnings after the close. The Dow dipped 0.21%, the S&P 500 edged down 0.02%, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.08%. U.S. data revealed that the personal consumption expenditures price index increased 3.7% in July from the previous year. Excluding food and energy, core PCE inflation rose 3.3% over the same period. Personal spending grew by 0.2% in July, while personal income increased by 0.4%.

Nvidia earnings boost technology sector recovery

Nvidia reported a fiscal second-quarter revenue of $96.22 billion for the period ending July 26, representing an 18% increase from the previous quarter and a 106% rise compared to the same quarter last year. Revenue from Data Center operations hit $89.0 billion, up 117% year over year. The company also posted GAAP net income of $59.69 billion and diluted earnings of $2.46 per share. Its GAAP gross margin was 75.0%, compared with 72.4% in the same quarter last year.

Looking ahead, Nvidia projected third-quarter revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. The forecast assumes no Data Center compute revenue from China and expects GAAP and non-GAAP gross margins of 74.0%, plus or minus 50 basis points. During the second quarter, Nvidia returned approximately $26.0 billion to shareholders through share repurchases and cash dividends, with about $99.0 billion remaining under its authorized share repurchase program at quarter’s end.

Market reactions to earnings and inflation reports

Following the earnings announcement and conference call, Nvidia’s stock increased by 4.7% in after-hours trading. U.S. equity futures also moved upward during Asian trading on Thursday. Several Asian markets saw tech shares advance following Nvidia’s revenue growth and outlook. The market activity reflected a contrast between Tuesday’s tech-driven rally and Wednesday’s slight declines. The performance of semiconductor earnings and U.S. inflation data remained key factors influencing global equity markets.

These latest figures added context to Tuesday’s rally, which centered on Nvidia’s strong report. Revenue and Data Center sales more than doubled compared to the same quarter last year. Nvidia’s third-quarter revenue forecast exceeds its second-quarter total by nearly $12 billion at the midpoint. By Thursday, the broader U.S. market was trading near flat after Wednesday’s minimal decline and Tuesday’s gains driven by technology stocks. These were the most recent confirmed corporate and economic indicators following the two Wall Street sessions.
